Bobby Meseke

Bob Meseke was born in December 1933, the days of FDR, and didn't know another president until Truman took office in 1945. Reared in the Spring Creek community west of Alma, Kansas, Bob attended local country school until moving on to Alma High where he graduating in 1951—the "year of the big flood." Fellow classmates considered him the best welder in Vo-Ag class. Farming was the life Bob chose and he built up a cow herd on the family place. He married Nelle Maithes in 1963 and together they raised three sons. Today he is retired and lives in town. He has a passion for history which he like to pass-on to his five grandchildren. Bob says that he has inherited his good health from his mother—who lived to be 102. Most weekends, Bob can be found at the the Volland Store—informing visitors with his many stories of local interest. Mark Feiden and Rob Meseke visited with Bob in Alma, Kansas, on March 28, 2021.
